About the object

In the south of Brandenburg in Oberspreewald-Lausitz, people had the good idea of turning the Niemtsch open-cast mine, where lignite was mined, into a lake with plenty of “local recreation” back in the 1970s. Between the garden landscape, the zoo and the new town harbour stretches a spacious square, one of the liveliest attractions in the Lusatian Lakeland. This is where the new 3-storey office building of the Lausitz Water Association is located. The entire area of the Senftenberg city harbour was completed in 2013.

Town harbour at Lake Senftenberg in the Lusatian Lakeland

All construction measures were to blend into the landscape as inconspicuously as possible. The design idea was then correspondingly turned out. The new building took up the design features of the harbour structure and the colours from the existing surroundings. The planning and engineering company Ipro Dresden chose Baier to supply the matching design and sun protection elements. The assignment for Baier was to design the privacy and sun protection systems in light blue to match the water theme, thus giving the building a maritime character.

Metal sliding shutters as sun protection

37 sliding shutters were custom-made with a perforated panel and a frame made of extruded aluminium profile with all-round bending and motorised control. The frame face width is less than 7 mm and therefore hardly visible, which means that a calm, clear surface is created.
