Residential building on historic estate in Offenburg’s Kesselstrasse
Offenburg is naturally a home game for the Baier company. It is not even half an hour away from Ulm. Although Baier GmbH carries out projects nationwide, it is also happy to receive orders “on its doorstep”. Sliding shutters are also becoming an increasingly popular design feature in Baden. Offenburg, the next largest city, falls directly into the catchment area. After a delay, the building work could begin and Baier was commissioned to manufacture, deliver and install the 21 sliding shutters, approx. 1.6 x 2.2 m, which are to be operated manually, complete with fittings. The integration into the historical environment was to be ensured here and this could be achieved by the relatively filigree installation of the running rail with small mounting brackets without a continuous support profile or a cover.
Pure nature – sun protection made of thermo pine
Sliding shutters with thermo wood are a speciality: The choice of a special wood, namely thermo pine, can do the rest here in terms of appearance and performance. This is wood whose properties are specifically changed by thermal processes (high-temperature treatment). In this process, the necessary properties are adjusted by high temperatures (170 to 230°C) and without the addition of auxiliary materials.
Sliding shutters made of thermowood – durable and resistant
- Increased durability (against fungal attack and weathering) – also inside the wood.
- Reduced swelling and shrinkage (swelling compensation is up to 70% depending on the type of wood and treatment stage).
- Equilibrium moisture content of the wood is reduced, i.e. in the same ambient climate, the moisture content of thermowood is up to 70% lower than that of untreated wood.
- New colour shades can be created, ranging from a warm brown tone to the black of smoked oak.
Special design of the shutters: The slats as well as the frame are divided (approx. 1/3, 2/3) to take up the design lines of the windows. The property integrates very well as a modern building with the traditional outbuildings.
