About the object

Outstanding quality, clear forms and reduced design were the focus of the design of this detached house in Elzach. In the ZweitälerLand, where Black Forest lovers go on holiday, namely in the climatic health resort of Elzach, this residential wish became reality. As a “connoisseur of the wood scene”, the owner opted for a silver fir façade. “Wooden façades have a long tradition, especially in the Vorarlberg region,” says Becherer. The building is additionally protected and insulated from the outside. Here in the Black Forest, fir wood has often proved its worth on the weather side of old farmhouses.

Quality in every detail

Architecture is multifaceted and it is the façade in particular that significantly underlines the character of a building. Silver fir has a matt, whitish colour and is considered elastic and very resilient, which is why fir wood is excellently suited as structural timber for wooden façades.

As an expert in sliding shutters for a wide variety of projects and construction projects, Baier GmbH, in fruitful cooperation with the architect and house owner, realised the view and sun protection for this sophisticated house – because a new house stands and falls with the details. Each project is unique and tailored to individual requirements. The sun protection was already planned during the construction of the house – to match the interior. The furniture was also made by the owner in silver fir.

Sun protection and façade “from a single mould”

Baier planned and constructed the sliding shutter frames from extruded aluminium profiles. The running rails were anodised black to be as inconspicuous as possible, and the frames were coated black. The assembly was also carried out by the Baier team. The Olymp G80 system was used as the ceiling mounting rail. The running rails for the almost 2 m high sliding shutters were concealed behind the wooden façade. For the sake of visual appearance, continuous guide brackets were not used in this project, and instead guides were used at specific points. The sliding shutter frames were planked in situ. The Kaiserslautern model was used. The filling was applied to the metal construction with a 60 mm overhang on site, so that the sun protection and the wooden façade are as if “cast from the same mould”.

Wooden façade with a “used look

The sun protection matching the wooden façade captivates with its used look. A natural “beautiful” weathering or greying of untreated wood cannot be planned and is usually not even, so the façade wood and the sliding shutter panel were surface-treated with a greying glaze. This imitates the natural weathering process and the wooden façade still looks even after a few years.

Quite comfortable

Motorised sliding shutter systems offer maximum convenience and impress with their quiet operation. The hangings of the house are equipped with 24-volt motors and can be conveniently moved with a hand-held transmitter or push-button – even when the windows are closed. The house can be completely or partially sealed off from the outside at the touch of a button.

When the sliding shutters are completely closed, you are faced with a wooden façade.

Basically, sliding and sliding-folding shutters can be operated electrically or via radio or, if desired, manually.
