Whether wood decor or aluminium: sliding shutters provide accents
Parts of the existing façade are panelled with wooden slats, whose dark colouring contrasts with the light beige plastered façade. The client developed the colour concept for the residential building and decided on the Freiburg shutter model with a trapezoidal slat made of aluminium with a wood finish for the sliding shutters to match. The materiality not only suits the residential building itself, but also the rest of the surroundings, where this combination of materials is predominant.
Individual fillings at Baier
The Freiburg model impresses with its straight-lined design. The infill is available with a choice of wooden or aluminium slats, or with a wood finish on request. The other shopfitting models from Baier complement the range with additional materials such as fabric, expanded metal, composite fibreboard or printed glass. There are virtually no limits to design creativity, as customised solutions are also possible. The frames, on the other hand, are mainly made of extruded aluminium profiles. This is also the case with the residential building in Sinzheim. Anodised in E6/EV1 silver, they match the guide rails of the sliding shutters, which are also anodised silver.
Mounting on existing window for better sun protection
When renovating, the existing windows have to be taken into account in the planning and the sliding shutters have to be ordered in the appropriate dimensions or custom-made. The sun protection elements were used on two sides of the house. The street side has two elements of different widths and the gable façade facing the garden has six narrow elements of the same width. These are each attached in pairs to a guide rail and suspended in the support system. The lower guide was fixed under the window sill so that the sliding shutter can be guided along it by a glider.
Other side, other look
On the other side of the house, the sliding shutter system consists of a single sliding shutter each. In contrast to the gable side, these elements are more square to horizontal, i.e. arranged in a horizontal format. The guide rails are each dimensioned in such a way that the elements either shade the window and serve as privacy and sun protection, but do not result in any restriction of view when completely open. All façade elements are self-locking and are operated by a 230V motor. The control unit is located laterally offset from the element so that it can be conveniently controlled by the occupants at the touch of a button.
Whether renovation, conversion or new build: sliding shutters are in vogue
Sliding shutters have long been used not only to provide shade and more privacy. Rather, they have become a design tool when the external quality of facades is to be upgraded by relatively simple interventions. Baier’s product portfolio ranges from inexpensive, mass-produced solutions to customised production and special solutions.
