Privacy at the touch of a button – sliding shutters for all cases
In the case of the single-family house in Nordhorn, Baier was on hand to advise and assist from the planning phase of the sliding shutters right through to the final installation. And the result is impressive. The two-storey masonry building with projections and recesses impresses with the solidity of the reddish clinker brick, which is flanked by anthracite-coloured sliding elements that contribute significantly to the exterior design.
Horizontal exposed concrete meets vertical privacy screen
Both inside and out, the almost 300-square-metre residential building designed by Fabian Holst follows an objective and at the same time warm stringency. The material canon of the façade consists of reddish-brown clinker, light grey exposed concrete and anthracite-coloured aluminium. Flush with the clinkered outer shell, the two storeys are emphasised and visually separated from each other by a surrounding band of exposed concrete. The attic, window frames and canopy form the third and darkest component, which is harmoniously complemented by Baier sliding shutters.

Aluminium slats: Functional and chic
A total of 20 sliding shutters of the Frankfurt model were used. The aluminium trapezoidal louvre has dimensions of 69 x 22 mm and was installed vertically at an angle for a pleasant feeling of space inside. Both the frame made of extruded aluminium profile and the filling were powder-coated in DB 703 fine structure matt before assembly. The frame profiles are butted and joined during production and the slats are then individually screwed to the frame. The hardware used is Olymp, the main series from Baier, which consists of a running track, running carriage and suspension bracket. While the standard fittings G/40 and G/80 each carry 40 and 80 kg sash weight respectively, the Olymp G/140 fitting used here can carry up to 140 kg. Aluminium as the material of the slat not only looks chic, but also has functional advantages. In addition to its long service life and corrosion resistance, it is also weather-resistant and defies weather conditions such as sun, rain or snow. The powder coating makes the surface even more robust against external influences.
Sliding shutters with guiding competence
The sliding shutters have integrated guides at both the top and bottom. The top track is suspended on aluminium angle brackets that are firmly anchored to the masonry façade. Since both the running rails and the brackets are anodised silver in E6/EV1, the running rails were clad with side covers made of aluminium square sheet in DB 703 fine structure matt, so that they contribute to the homogeneous overall appearance.
The lower guide, which is also continuous, is fixed at points on the upper floor with aluminium angle profiles on small aluminium angle brackets that are firmly anchored in the façade. The sliding shutters are guided with roller bolts and thus receive additional stability. On the ground floor, on the other hand, they are partially guided by terrace bolts, which in turn lead into terrace profiles that have been embedded in the floor. This ensures level and barrier-free access. Other elements are kept on track in the areas where there is no terrace by gliders in guides embedded on site. The angle profiles are also powder-coated in DB 703, the terrace profiles in E6/EV1, silver anodised.

Perfect from the inside and the outside
In order to make operation as simple and intuitive as possible, it is motor-controlled. The 24V rail-mounted device from Baier is designed for installation in control cabinets on standardised mounting rails according to DIN EN 50022 and was also used as such in this project. In addition, the 24V electronic controls can be installed as a flush-mounted device in a flush-mounted box. In this case, the power supply unit disappears and the control remains accessible with the removable button cover. Radio operation is possible for both installation variants of the rail-mounted device. The advantages of motorised control are obvious: at the push of a button, the sliding shutters move into the desired position and can even be programmed for a specific time. The sliding shutter drive impresses with its long service life and quiet operation.
Efficient privacy and sun protection
In addition to the sophisticated control technology inside, the sliding shutters are also visually impressive. Thanks to the vertical, slanted arrangement of the slats, the sliding shutters allow sufficient incidence of light even when closed. The privacy elements thus ensure the privacy of the residents on the one hand and efficient sun protection on the other. They become a design-defining element – from the inside and from the outside – and round off the harmonious impression of the residential building.
