About the object

The client, the Wohnungsgenossenschaft Dessau eG, wanted a self-contained façade design – Baier GmbH took care of the visual and functional upgrading of the building.
The architects’ office Seelbach wanted a self-contained façade design for this building. In order to meet this requirement, Baier developed a cross-floor support profile. This means that the support profile accommodates the running track, but at the same time contains the guide of the element above it. With a cover panel matched to this system, the impression is created that the shutters glide on the façade without a connection.

Balconies in particular are very well suited for the use of architectural sun protection and sliding shutters. The continuous and storey-spanning balcony elements can be loosened up with the sliding shutters. This creates a much more harmonious overall appearance due to the randomly arranged sliding shutters in front of the balcony elements. Due to the special support profile that integrates the guide, the sliding shutters can also be mounted on the low storey ceilings of the balconies at the front. This creates a continuous façade appearance that does not interrupt the balconies. Alternatively, the sliding shutter can also be mounted between the storey ceilings of the balconies. The guide and running rail of the sliding shutters are then mounted on the soffit of the ceiling of the balcony above or on the floor of the respective balcony.

Stable and robust – Frankfurt sliding shutter model

Tried and tested in many projects, the sliding shutter model Frankfurt is particularly suitable for these shutter dimensions. With the Frankfurt shutter, the slats are individually screwed to the frame using 4 screws. This ensures enormous stability and robustness. The elliptical slats absorb the sunlight and scattered light in an evenly appearing course.

Two-colour sliding shutter variant

On request, the sliding shutter model Frankfurt can even be coated in two colours. The sliding shutter frame is then coated in a different colour to the curtain, the slats. In addition to the elliptical shape, many other slat variants are also available for the Frankfurt model.

Under the heading of improvement of residential value, this object met the tight application criteria for the award of the 2013 Architecture Prize of the City of Dessau on the way to becoming a Bauhaus City and was approved for the procedure.
