Medical centre Aachen

About the object

On the grounds of the rheumatism clinic at Burtscheider Markt, high-quality rental flats of various sizes are currently being built under the overall concept of the Aacherner Büro kadawittfeldarchitektur. Parts of the old regional clinic, which are not listed buildings, are making room for a variety of residential units. The fact that the hottest natural spring in Europe bubbles up in Aachen, namely at up to 74 degrees, was probably decisive for the naming of the planned residential complex “Quartier 74 Grad”. Renovation and new construction will take place in a total of 3 construction phases between Burtscheider Markt, Altorfstraße and Benediktinerstraße.

Schiebefaltladen in Holz am Ärztehaus Aachen

Quartier 74 degrees in Aachen

The redevelopment of the so-called Ärztehaus was also part of the overall concept. In the future, all sides of the former medical centre should be visible. Of course, special attention was paid to the renovation of the façade. With Esser & Noppeney GmbH, the A.S.H. architects have engaged a real professional when it comes to façades. True to the company’s philosophy “Perfection is our standard”, one complete side was covered with wood to match the rest of the listed building. Sliding folding shutters matching the rest of the “outer skin” offer the possibility of opening the façade in front of the balconies.

Sliding-folding shutter model Premium 61 as an individual solution

Folding-sliding systems are very complex in their movement sequences and so the façade builder sought cooperation with the experienced Renchen-based company Baier GmbH for this technically demanding work. In the in-house design office, 3 manual systems with 2 wings each were planned and manufactured in the adjacent production hall. According to the requirements, project manager Tanja Strohmaier planned with the in-house sliding-folding shutter model Premium 61. Small, even distances between slats and slat joints were required. In order to achieve a homogeneous effect of the façade, the flushness of the façade was an important criterion. So that the façade builder could apply the wooden slats flush with the façade, the frames were equipped with attached U-grids.

Hinges, carriages and guide rails lie behind the façade – nothing disturbs the uniform appearance when looking directly up and out. Ball-bearing rollers made of high-quality plastic ensure smooth running, and the leaves can be easily and quietly operated with one hand. A latch on the carriage allows the shutters to be securely locked in different positions. When open, an edge latch and a locking bolt ensure a secure hold and prevent spontaneous shifting due to wind.

Baier brings expert knowledge to the construction site

Baier is an experienced and flexible specialist in the design, manufacture and installation of folding sliding shutters. If required, Baier’s fitters bring their expert knowledge to their construction site and provide “installation assistance” – this saves time and avoids mistakes. In the case of the medical centre in Aachen, the smooth cooperation between Esser & Noppeney and Baier GmbH produced an optimal result – the outstanding quality in terms of workmanship and appearance is something to be proud of.
