Merkurbahn car valley station – open to all
The popular destination for locals and tourists attracts around 200,000 visitors a year. Now it is expected to reach 300,000 soon. The entire facility was completely renovated and modernised. The technology was completely renewed so that the lift is now much faster and safer.
The upper and lower stations were also renovated and modernised. The most important measure: the entire facility is now barrier-free – making the excursion a pleasant experience for everyone.
Barrier-free extension of the railway station with catering facilities
On the one hand, accessibility naturally means barrier-free access to all areas – interior, toilets, platforms and carriages. But barriers can also arise beyond stairs, for example if it is not possible to operate the ticket machine or if questions arise. The easiest way to eliminate service problems is personal contact.
The kiosk in the valley station is part of the service concept. A sales window facing the entrance hall and another facing the waiting room are contact points for anyone who needs information or wants to buy a ticket, provisions or souvenirs.
Smooth handling with vertical sliding windows from Baier
Similar to the issue of accessibility, the devil was in the detail when it came to the planning and execution of the vertical sliding windows intended as sales windows. That is why those responsible at Hewe Glas- und Metallbau GmbH relied on Baier.
As an expert for sliding windows, Baier offers customised solutions and does not shy away from challenges. No compromises are made on quality, because for Baier object-specific sliding windows also mean fulfilling their function long and reliably as part of a building.
Reaching the goal quickly – even during refurbishment
Baier developed and manufactured two vertical sliding windows for the valley station of the Merkur cable car, each with a movable lower sash:
- A sliding window measuring 1586 x 1486 mm.
- A sliding window measuring 804 x 1486 mm plus two fixed side glazing units, each measuring 615 x 1486 mm.
Both window systems are thermally insulated and fitted with double glazing. They are manually operated and can be locked.
Large colour selection – from gaudy to discreet
Windows from Baier are available in any desired colour and here, too, the metal construction specialist naturally caters to customer wishes. In this case, the windows were taken to the coater who coated all the corresponding components of the building project in the colour shade “DB 703 Pearl-Metallic, Structure 1015Q, Silk Matt”. This ensured absolute colour accuracy.
Tailor-made – that also applies to the schedule
The design and functional implementation of the customer’s wishes was only one of the challenges in the case of the sliding windows for the Merkurbahn. Another was the tight schedule.
But here, too, Baier was reliable. There was only a good 7 weeks between ordering the windows on 21 January 2020 and delivery on 12 March 2020. In this time, the drawings were made according to the customer’s wishes, the material was taken to the coater, the glass was ordered and the windows were installed.
Since the beginning of June, the completely renovated Merkurbahn has been running again – with new carriages that are also barrier-free, quieter and faster. The tickets and a souvenir are available at the valley station – smooth service included.
