Monument protection or preservation

Monument protection or preservation

Monuments are cultural assets of bygone days whose authenticity must be preserved. A monument must be maintained, and the preservation of its substance must be guaranteed permanently.

Whether a building is a listed building or not is up to the responsible federal states and is regulated in the Monument Protection Act. Whether or not a building is listed is decided by the monument conservators. It is their task to ensure that the substance is preserved or restored as it once was. This also applies, for example, to a door, a window or a roof.

Restoration of a listed building is complex and must be planned and carried out in close contact with the responsible office to protect historical monuments. The heritage protection authority also provides documents for funding the cost-intensive renovation of listed buildings.
